2nd Annual Coaches’ Cook-Off
April 7, 2014 Staff Writer

Let’s get ready to RUMBLE! It’s time to kick off the 2nd annual Coaches’ Cook-Off to benefit Max’s Positive Vibe Cafe.

During this year’s culinary event, Virginia Commonwealth University’s basketball coach, Shaka Smart, will go head-to-head with University of Richmond’s basketball coach, Chris Mooney.

The coaches will be joined by our very own Buz; Jim Ertel, executive chef at Salisbury Country Club; Glenn Purden, executive chef at U of R; and Gary Whitecotton, executive chef at The Country Club of Virginia.

Max’s Positive Vibe cafe, formerly known as Get Lost MD Foundation, is part of Positive Vibe Foundation which was founded in 2002. The nonprofit organization dedicates training and employing people with disabilities, both physical and mental, in the food service industry. The training program offered has trained more than 400 students, all with scholarships, since 2004. The students learn basic food service skills through hands-on training, which builds self-confidence.

Along with delicious food, each attendee can taste each coaches’ creation and vote. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Facebook event here.
